Patient Transport and Care Policy

Members of Vernon Emergency Medical Services (VEMS) are committed to providing the highest standard of care while prioritizing patient health and safety. In the interest of timely and effective medical treatment, patients will be strongly encouraged to be transported to the closest appropriate hospital, regardless of personal or family preferences.

In some cases, hospitals such as Morristown Medical Center or Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center (Paterson) may be the nearest facilities equipped to handle the patient’s needs.

Additionally, certain situations may require the assistance of Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedics or the use of Air Medical (helicopter) transport to ensure the best possible outcome for the patient. These decisions are made based on the patient’s condition, the medical services available, and the urgency of care required.

VEMS remains dedicated to delivering compassionate and professional care while prioritizing the well-being of every patient.
